I had such fun singing a few songs on the first season of The CW's hilarious musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and became a big fan of the show. Now, after creator/lead Rachel Bloom won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for best actress in a comedy, the series is back for a second season. I was thrilled to get back in the studio with the show's executive music producer Adam Schlesinger, this time doing vocals for 5 songs sprinkled throughout the season. There are some gems in upcoming episodes, but here's a funny one to start called "Stuck in the Bathroom". I sang the reference vocals for the characters and the backing vocals you hear in this clip from episode 6.
This month, I was delighted at the opportunity to work with Ricky Ho, a very talented composer out of Singapore. He’s scoring a uniquely beautiful Chinese feature film set in Northern Tibet, called 77 Days. I was tasked with singing on three distinct and sprawling cues. It’s set to be released worldwide in 2017.
Had the pleasure of working on this electro-swing cover of KC & The Sunshine Band's "That's the Way (I Like It)" with my talented friend Darren Solomon, composer at Big Foote Music + Sound. Brazilian beer Brahma (just named one of the top 10 best-selling beers in the world) featured the track on this Fall 2016 TV spot, titled 'Coleção Rótulos Históricos', about the brand's 128 year history.
Created by Pepsi and BBDO, this is one of my favorite spots I've sung on. The music is a cover of Yall's "Hundred Miles" produced by Scott Mann and Mary Wood at Frisbie. It's part of Pepsi's 2016 launch of their global Pepsimoji campaign and the byline for it reads: Let the music take the lead. #SayItWithPepsi#PepsiMoji
24 years after appearing in the iconic Super Bowl television spot, Cindy Crawford has once again teamed up with Pepsi to recreate the famous 1992 commercial. However, this time she appears as an emoji, or as she says, an “eMOLEji.” I got to be the voice of the #pepsimoji tagline at the end of the spot. :)
I have *never* laughed as much in the studio as I did while recording the backing vocals to this song, which airs on tonight's episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on The CW. I just had to get that off my chest.
Super-excited to have had a little vocal feature on episode 12 of The CW's new musical-comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The show is only half way through its first season and the creator/lead Rachel Bloom has already won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice award for her role. Working with the show's wonderfully talented composer Adam Schlesinger, this is the first of a few episodes I had the pleasure of singing on and I've become a big fan. The song is called "Romantic Moments" and here's the video clip...
Big thanks to my friends at Frisbie (frisbienyc.com) for bringing me in to sing on this Keer Fine Jewelry campaign for China. Created by the Badger & Winters agency, the multi-media brand relaunch includes TV & Digital elements underscored by composer Scott Mann's sultry track. This spot is called "Reach for the Stars" -- shout out to Anne Hathaway for making it a real gem! ;-)
Excited to be part of this -- In support of World AIDS Day, I sang reference and backing vocals for this holiday jingle by Barry Manilow and Adam Schlesinger for the (RED) SHOPATHON with Scarlett Johansson & Jimmy Kimmel. All month long for every dollar raised the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match it up to $20 million, more info here: http://gilt.com/red
I'm pleased to report, the year-end has been full of fun projects that I'm excited to share as soon as they air! Including upcoming vocal features on The CW's new hit show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (lead by the hilarious writer/creator Rachel Bloom who just won the Golden Globe & Critics' Choice award for her role), an Ulta Beauty holiday spot, Honda Dealers holiday spots, GA Lottery TV & Radio commercials, a Keer Fine Jewelry spot featuring Anne Hathaway, and a flock of new songs to be released in the new year. Thanks to all the great people I got to work with in 2015 and here's to making more music in 2016!!
I'm delighted to announce that my original electro-swing song in collaboration with producer Biboulakis has been picked up by clothing brand Chico's for their upcoming fall commercial campaign. The song will be featured on spots for all media, including TV and Web, and will air in their three markets: US, Canada, & Mexico. A big THANK YOU to Chico's for licensing this happy little number and for providing me with comfy pants to boot! Here's one of the spots followed by the full song...
I had the pleasure of working with two talented songwriter/producers -- Leo Sidran (Ropeadope) and Gary Philips (Razor & Tie) -- on a song called "Let the Sun Shine In". Just in time for the summer, here it is...
When you think of ESPN, fast-paced music may come to mind. In my case, though, they've been bringing me in to sing on a series of ethereal tracks for their hit show E:60, composed by Figure & Groove Music. Just completed my 3rd round of vocals for them today -- video clip to come!
Each year, Comedy Central puts together an amazing night of comedy to benefit Autism Speaks called Night of Too Many Stars. If you saw this year's show, you may remember Maya Rudolph's opening number (here's the video). I had the great pleasure of working with the producers to provide the reference vocals for the song. There are an incredible amount of lyrics so kudos to Maya for killing it live! Here's my version...
Original song "Let's Keep It Movin'" (that I sang and co-wrote Matt & Neil de Luca) scores the opening credits & scene of feature comedy ‘Sleeping with the Fishes’, directed by Nicole Gomez Fisher and starring 2015 Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriquez. After collecting a series of awards on the festival circuit, the film was picked up by HBO and is now airing! Here's the opening CLIP and the song...
Paying homage to the 60’s era of classic cocktails, this new Drambuie TV spot titled “Found Film“ tells the story of a previously unseen 8mm film reel shot behind the scenes at a recording of a Drambuie jingle called ‘Scotch & Honey’. Recording this jingle with Jack Livesey at duotone audio group was a joy and while I was hoping that singing on this commercial would get me a complimentary bottle, the expression on the actor's face as she strikes the cymbal is priceless. Cheers!
Just wrapped up recording with JSM Music for an Ulta Beauty radio commercial. Set to the tune of "Twelve Days of Christmas", the challenge was fitting about twice as many lyrics in as the original. Audio coming soon!
Thanks to Wagram, the #1 Independent Music Distributor in France, for selecting "Is That Too Much to Ask" for two more compilations: Electro Swing Essentials was released earlier in August and look for the Cool Music 1 worldwide release in November.
To kick off this year's Discovery Networks Upfront, Animal Planet presented their slate and capped it off with an amazing choir reveal as we belted out a gospel version of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth". It was truly an honor and a thrill to share the stage with such a talented group of singers (and some other familiar faces like Oprah, Roseanne, and Ron Howard)... What a day!
Along with my good friend/collaborator/multi-instrumentalist/producer Michael DeVellis, I co-wrote two new songs: an electronica track called "Shed the Light on the Night" and a motown tune called "Want It To Be"
Had a great time lending my voice to a hilarious green bird who, along with a team of singing animals, urge America to "Enrooooll" for health insurance -- This national TV, Radio & Web campaign in support of the Affordable Care Act begins airing on February 7th, 2014.
Heylady had an exciting year with highlights including the release of debut album 'About Time' to stellar reviews, sold out album release and Bowery Ballroom shows, and two memorable Brooklyn Bowl end-of-year shows. This is one particular album review that made heylady feel warm-and-fuzzy: Live for Live Music Review. Good things to come for Heylady in 2014! Stay tuned......
"Is That Too Much to Ask", an original electro-swing song by collaborators producer Biboulakis (aka Bibz) and Nina Zeitlin, is now on Japan's Rambling Records Electro-Swing compilation 'Electro Swing On Dance Vol.1'!
Bibz/Nina song "If Only Alarms Didn't Ring" was released in 2011 by Defected (UK) on 4 compilations and as it's own record on their sister label Azuli. Almost two years later, as we ring in 2013, the alarms seem to keep ringing (sorry, terrible joke...) on youtube in particular. With all kinds of versions floating around, including a few entertaining DIY music video edits, this official Azuli video with the David Jones remix version has now surpassed 150,000 views.
After completing two new songs in collaboration with Matt and Neil de Luca of Figure & Groove Music, "Overcome" gets picked up for VH1's show House of Consignment and "Let's Keep it Movin" gets placed in the opening credits/scene of 2013 award-winning comedy feature Sleeping with the Fishes (film clip here).
Great news! "Is That Too Much to Ask", the newest electro-swing track by Nina (vocals/lyrics) and producer Bibz was selected and released worldwide on two compilations from Wagram Music (the largest independent music distributor in France): Electro Swing IV and Spirit of Electro Swing (a comprehensive 'Best of' collection for the genre, which also contains the Bibz/Nina song "If Only Alarms Didn't Ring").
The day after we completed a successful kickstarter campaign to fund the recording of our debut album, we played a big Mardi Gras show with New Orleans' own Rebirth Brass Band (the night before they won a Grammy!). It was an amazing night! We now have a couple more big shows lined up, the first of which is on 4/29/12 at Highline Ballroom, sharing the stage with Motet. Then a few weeks later, we'll be joining Walker and the Brotherhood of the Grape at B.B. Kings!
This original electro-swing collaboration between Nina and Biboulakis gets signed to Defected Records, along with a David Jones Remix. The track was also seleted for the "Knights of the Playboy Mansion" compilation, mixed by Bob Sinclair and Dimitri from Paris.
On Mark Farina's "Best of 2009 in no particular order" list, he includes the debut release of Biboulakis feat. Nina Zeitlin's "The Lucky Two" EP, here: http://www.juno.co.uk/charts/dj/338854-Mark_farina/347289-Chart/
The original song I wrote in collaboration with producer Biboulakis gets released on Greenskeepers (w/ remixes by James Curd and Frankie J) with distribution through Om Records. It's available online everywhere for download and through select sites on Vinyl (including stompy.com)
Nina & Dave duo is selected for the Healing Arts Initiative, a non-profit inspiring healing, growth and learning through access to the arts for the culturally underserved in NYC. For more information, visit: http://hainyc.org
I'm excited to be releasing the family album King Pajama "Something Sweet" sweet that I produced and sang. We recorded it in my Brooklyn studio and we can't wait to get it out to the kids! www.kingpajama.com
Check out the clip of the movie trailer I sang (here), composed by the de Luca brothers of Figure & Groove Music. The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives) and was an MGM release on October 31st, 2008.
I'm teaming up with Dave Cohen (pianist extraordinaire) to put our own twist on some classic covers. We'll be playing events & cocktail hours. We recorded a nice long demo in early April (Nina & Dave demo), here's one of the tunes...
